Steve has been in the stained glass industry for most of his adult life. He's been the leader artisan on numerous high visible historical stained glass projects, including the restoration of the Illinois State Capitol Dome and the historic Frank Lloyd Wright designed, Dana Thomas House.
As an active member of the Springfield community and his local church, Steve has volunteered his time and services on numerous projects, including work on the historical Oak Ridge Cemetery Abbey.
Brooks Art Glass offers a full range of services including historical government buildings, ecclesiastical, churches, office buildings, home builders, homeowners and projects for individual clients. Services include complete restoration repair of existing stained glass, including the supervision of its framing, final installation and protective glazing. New glass commissions are designed and fabricated to the customized design requirements of each client and then carefully installed to withstand each environment.
The goal of the studio is to create a greater visual richness to environments through the use of proper lighting, color, and symbolism in architectural spaces, and the proper maintenance and restoration of established pieces of stained glass art.
In 2021, Steve was interviewed on Springfield's WMAY Radio. Click here to listen to his fun interview.
In 2010 Steve traveled to Honduras to install stained glass windows at a local orphanage. In an article in the Springfield Journal Register Steve said, “I’m going to try to teach somebody how to do stained glass while I’m down there and leave the tools and stuff there and some supplies for that purpose. There are some local Honduran women that have a co-op, and they sell crafts and stuff like that, so I thought that would be kind of neat for them.”
